Support groups, websites, and charities for specific mental disorders

There is a list of support resources (related to the conditions we treat) for patients, carers, and families below. The listing of a group or charity does not imply explicit endorsement, and we recognise that different people will find difference types of support helpful. We try to keep the list up-to-date, but we cannot list everything. The omission of a website or charity does not imply anything.

The Royal College of Psychiatrists is the professional body for psychiatrists in the UK and is also a charity. It provides resources on a range of mental disorders and their treatment.

Mind

Mind is a mental health charity based in England and Wales. It offers information and advice to people with mental health problems and also lobbies government and local authorities on their behalf. The charity also works to raise public awareness and understanding of issues relating to mental health.

Specialist (i.e. 'tertiary') services for OCD in England and Wales

A number of major OCD charities provide detailed information about specialist services on their websites. 'Tertiary' services refer to services that may be available if someone has not responded to treatment available in 'secondary' care (i.e. community mental health teams, CMHTs). These services are only available for patients living in England and Wales.

Information on OCD and support groups from one of the UK's largest charities for OCD. They also have an annual conference.

Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder (OCPD)

In ICD-11, OCPD is now referred to as 'Anankastia in personality disorder or personality difficulty'. However, 'anankastic' and 'obsessive-compulsive' traits and behaviours are essentially the same thing. More information about how personality disorder is classified in ICD-11 can be found in this paper, and in a range of other sources.
